Qual 3rd – Finished DNF
Qual 4th – Finished 3rd
Archie Hamilton returned to the podium in the second race today at the Croft Circuit round of the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship. The Basingstoke based 20 year old had recovered from his first retirement of the season after a first corner incident and his team managed making significant repairs just in time to get him back on track for race two.
Despite struggling with traffic on the track, Archie managed to post the top time for the Fortec team to qualify third for race one. Qualifying two was a tricky affair with a strong wind and change in wind direction having a marked effect on driving conditions. Archie posted a time that put him in row two again for the second race.
Today’s first race saw Archie making a strong start, and after challenging Dino Zamparelli and James Thorp ahead he slotted back into third for the first corner. He was hit from behind and ended up in the middle of the pack, collecting his innocent team-mate. He retired and the Fortec team set to work to rebuild both cars for race two.
Starting from fourth, Archie gained a place at the race two start, taking third from James Thorp. Archie’s best chance for further progress came when Josh Webster ahead ran wide but closed the door before Archie could take full advantage. From there the trio pulled away from the pack and crossed the line in the same order.
“Race one is one to forget. It’s a great shame that I lost valuable points needlessly. At least there is the chance to drop one race in this championship. As long as I keep a sheet for the rest of the season I’m hopefully still in with a shout of a decent season result. I can’t thank the team enough for its hard work on mine and Josh’s cars. It made my third feel like a win after all the hard work.”
Archie next races on 30/31st July in the Total 24 Hour of Spa with the next round of the BARC Formula Renault Championship taking place at Thruxton, Hampshire on 3rd September. For further information and high resolution images please contact Pippa Neilson, 07968 564660 or [email protected]
