Archie Hamilton To Return To International GT Open For 2014

Archie Hamilton (22, Basingstoke) will return to contest the International GT Open Championship in 2014. He will drive a V8 Racing Team GT2 Corvette in the Super GT class.

Archie’s co-driver will be Diederick Sijthoff who finished the 2012 season in seventh overall. Diederick has already won races and scored many podium finishes in the Super GT category. He was the Supercar Challenge Corvette Cup champion in 2012 and Dutch Supercar Challenge champion in the previous year.

Netherlands based V8 Racing is managed by GT Open driver Nicky Pastorelli and will field three cars for the 2014 season. The International GT Open season starts at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany on 3rd-4th May. The calendar contains eight events with two races per weekend with the finale taking place in Barcelona in October.

This year will be Archie’s second full season racing in the GT Open following a curtailed campaign in 2013 when an engine fire and subsequent team funding problems ended his drive.

Archie will have his first test in the car on the 13th March in Italy, part of a pre-season test programme.

Nicky Pastorelli, V8 Racing:
“We’re all really happy to have Archie in the team. I have been following him and we have been in contact since 2013. It is a plus for the team to have Archie with us. I am confident that he will have some good results and I’m confident he will be able to fight for the championship.”

Archie Hamilton:
“This deal means a great deal to me. I really had a tough time last season after we had been developing the car with Porsche all year and then the fire ended my season. Nicky Pastorelli was in second place when I was leading that race and ever since we kept in contact. It’s just fantastic to be in the best team in the paddock. V8 Racing was always a team I wanted to drive for and to get the chance in the Corvette GT2 car in a series which I have been successful in is great. My team-mate has been very quick in the past seasons and I’m looking forward to working with him and my engineers to try and hit the ground running. I hope we can repay everyone’s faith this year with some great results for the team.”
