Archie Hamilton Confirms Winter Series Lead With Another Win

Archie Hamilton Confirms Winter Series Lead With Another Win

Race 1: Qualified 1st, Finished 2nd

Race 2: Qualified 1st, Finished 1st

Archie Hamilton added to his points tally today with a win and a second place. The two races were the second of three two-race legs held at Snetterton as part of the 2011 Protyre Formula Renault UK Finals Series in which Archie, 20 from Basingstoke, is competing in the BARC class. The remaining two races take place at Rockingham on Saturday.

Contrary to yesterday’s races, the weather was dry. After a night of studying data for the potential change in conditions with his engineer, Archie was prepared and in this morning’s qualifying he put in two storming laps that were approaching a second faster than his closest BARC rival, putting him on pole position for both races.

In race one, Archie led from the line but was faced with a multi-car accident ahead from the TOCA class. Archie went on the grass to get round the stricken cars and debris but James Fletcher managed to find a gap on track and took the lead. Knowing that Fletcher was no real threat to Archie’s title hopes, he decided to remain in second place instead of taking risks to regain the lead for a small points gain.

In the second race, Archie again lead from the start, this time pulling ahead until he had a seven second advantage. After reducing his pace to be more cautious Fletcher managed to close the gap to 3.5 seconds which Archie then maintained to the last lap when he backed off further, crossing the line with a 1.2 second margin.

“It’s fantastic to have not just my first Formula Renault win but three! I came into the series determined to give it my best to win a title and I’m pleased to have made good progress towards that this weekend. I’ve got a lead going into Rockingham so I need to focus on getting the finishes I need to win the series.”
