Disaster For Archie At Brands Hatch As Engine BLOWS Up During Practice

September 10, 2020

Archie Hamilton and his team were left ruing their luck as the engine of his Porsche GT4 Cayman deteriorated and blew up within just two laps of Practice.

With everyone buoyed by 4 x race podiums out of 4 leading into the weekend, the stage was set for another great day at Brands Hatch. The Porsche Cayman cars all filed out for the Free Practice session on the morning of Sunday the 6th, and within 2 laps, Archie’s car was on the sidelines with a smoking engine.

The team got the car back after the session and with all of the qualifying and race sessions in the same day, there was no chance of getting back out on track once a blown engine was diagnosed.

Archie Hamilton

“It’s just cruel, cruel luck. I was so excited for this weekend, feeling confident after the first 4 races of the year. I love Brands Hatch but this time it has not been kind to us! There’s nothing us or the team could have done, it’s just one of those things.

“We have to accept it, take it on the chin and come back stronger in 2 weeks for the next round at Donington Park. The team are working hard to find out why it blew up but it seems to be just one of those unfortunate things that can happen.

“A big thank you to my sponsors RhinoFab Equipment and UFI Filters, and also to the fans who came down to support and all the nice messages we received – we will be back and going for the wins next time. This is all part of the journey.”

Dino Zamparelli – Coach & Partnership Manager

“I feel very sorry for Archie – we spent a lot of time going through video and planning the weekend. I felt like this weekend could have been his breakthrough weekend for the win but alas it wasn’t to be.

“This is Sport – it will work out in our favour at some point but we will come back stronger and go for the wins next time out.”
